CLINTON TOWNSHIP, Mich. – Three young men are being honored for saving a man who had a heart attack.
They weren’t trained first responders, but brave teens willing to go above and beyond to save someone.
After stepping up when it mattered the most, the three were honored Thursday, May 9, by their middle school.
Daniel Bomar, Legend Washington and Anthony Allen are three Algonquin Middle School students who are being called heroes after saving the life of a man who was having a heart attack.
“It really felt like a dream, like it wasn’t real. But I snapped back to reality,” said Anthony.
The kids were riding bikes their bikes home from school in Clinton Township when they noticed the man unconscious on the ground behind his car.
“Legend was on my pegs on my bike. He was looking under cars and he was laying down like he fell, so legend told me to stop the bike,” said Daniel.
The three boys immediately did everything they could to help -- trying to wake him up and even running to his home to tell his wife to call 911, a move that ultimately saved his life. At first, he didn’t even have a pulse before an EMS crew was able to perform CPR.
Legend said it was a familiar face who he had to help.
“I was riding the bike one day and my chain popped off. And he low-key helped me one day. So it was like really a favor in return,” Legend recalled.
It’s said the boys were right there in the nick of time. Apparently, they found the man just five minutes after he collapsed.
The man is still in the hospital.
