DETROIT – The 37th annual Detroit Senior Olympics will be held from June 10 through June 12.
The competition is open to adults age 49 and older. Adults who are 49 years old must turn 50 by December 31 to qualify.
Olympic events will be held at Rouge Park Golf Course, the Pickleball Court, Garden Bowl, Williams Recreation Center, and the Adams Butzel Recreation Complex. Olympic events range from athletic to craft-based contests.
The Grand Event Day is set for Wednesday, June 12. That day the track and field, baking, and arts and crafts events will be held. The day includes official greetings, presentations, on-stage entertainment, lunch, and music by a DJ throughout the day. There will also be a vendor resource fair and free health screenings.
The deadline to register online has been extended to Monday, May 13, for Local 4 viewers. Seniors can register through Community Pass. Seniors can walk into any Detroit rec center to register on Monday, May 13.
Seniors do not need to be a member of a Detroit Recreation Center to register as an athlete spectator or a volunteer. All seniors are invited to register.
Athletes can register for up to six events. Additional fees apply to the following events:
- Bowling has a $20 fee.
- Golf has a $20 fee for a cart and a $15 fee for a walker.
- Pickleball has a $10 fee.
