Man arrested, charged after 17-hour standoff in Canton Township

Incident began with domestic violence, police say

CANTON TOWNSHIP, Mich. – A 39-year-old man has been charged with two felonies following a 17-hour standoff in Canton Township overnight May 8-9.

According to authorities, police were dispatched to a home on Annapolis Circle on reports of domestic violence. Police said they confirmed an assault occurred and secured the area after a man from inside the home fired a weapon.

Officers, investigators and negotiators worked for 17 hours at the scene before the man surrendered to police and was taken into custody Thursday at about noon.

Scott Earl Hoover was charged with felonious assault, felony firearm, reckless use of a firearm and domestic violence. His bond was set at $20,000 and he is expected to return to court Friday, May 17.
