Driver gets 1 year for crash that killed man in Canton Township

CANTON TOWNSHIP, Mich. – A driver will spend time behind bars for a crash that killed a man in Canton Township.

Lavina Flamer, 49, of Wayne, was accused of striking a 56-year-old Canton Township man around 8:45 p.m. Oct. 3, 2022, in the eastbound lanes of Michigan Avenue, near I-275.

Flamer was driving a silver SUV when she struck the man, who was trying to cross the road, police said. He was pronounced dead at the scene.

Flamer was charged with operating under the influence causing death and failure to stop at the scene of a crash when at fault resulting in death.

She pleaded no contest to operating while under the influence causing death, and the failure to stop charge was dismissed as part of a plea agreement.

Flamer was sentenced Monday, May 13, 2024, to one year in the Wayne County Jail. She will also pay $8,345 in fees and restitution.

She received 15 days’ worth of credit for time served.
