SOUTHGATE, Mich. – A driver from Southgate has been arrested for running over a Cedar Point employee in the parking lot of the amusement park, police said.

The crash happened around 8 p.m. May 10, 2024, according to WTOL in Toledo.

A 26-year-old Southgate man is accused of striking a Cedar Point traffic employee with his Cadillac Escalade and then fleeing the scene.

A witness told police that the worker fell on the ground as the Escalade ran over both of his legs, WTOL reports.

The witness said he ran up to the Escalade and told the driver to stop, but the man wouldn’t look at him and left.

Officials took the worker to the Firelands Regional Medical Center in Sandusky. The severity of his injuries has not been revealed.

The worker told police that the car struck him while he was bending down to pick something up from the ground.

Police reviewed video of the crash and traced the Escalade back to a resident in Southgate. The driver was arrested and charged with failing to stop after a crash on private property.
