1-year-old, grandma attacked by family dogs at Oakland County home

WIXOM, Mich. – A 1-year-old girl and her grandmother were attacked by two family pit bulls at a home in Oakland County, officials said.

Wixom police officers were called at 9:01 p.m. Wednesday, May 15, 2024, to a home in the area of Nissen Court and West Maple Road.

The girl was bitten on her face, forehead, lower back, and leg, police said. She was taken to Ascension Providence Hospital in Novi for treatment of severe cuts.

Officials said the girl was later transferred to C.S. Mott Children’s Hospital at the University of Michigan. She is in critical condition and awaiting surgery, as of Thursday morning.

The grandmother was treated for injuries at the scene and refused further medical help, Wixom police said.

Oakland County Animal Control officials are working with the Wixom Police Department on the investigation.
