CENTER LINE, Mich. – A car dealership in Center Line is the latest to be targeted by thieves.
Security video shows a group of car thieves breaking into the Crest Ford dealership on Van Dyke Avenue in Macomb County.
It happened around 4 a.m. Tuesday (May 14).
Center Line Public Safety Director Paul Myszenski said an off-duty officer was on his way to work when he noticed unusual activity at the dealership.
Security video shows the thieves smashing windows to get into the dealership and driving through the glass garage door.
“Individuals had broken into the dealership, had obtained several of the key fobs, and had activated or opened up the doors of three vehicles in the parking lot, at which time they proceeded to take those,” Myszenski said.
As the off-duty officer made his way onto the parking lot, the suspects ran into his car.
“The Hellcat drove through the garage door, hit the officer’s car, ramming it and then backing up and ramming it a second time, totally disabling it, and then fled the scene,” Myszenski said.
The officer was not hurt and quickly called for backup.
Police pursued the stolen cars, but Myszenski said they lost them somewhere in Detroit.
Two of the four stolen vehicles had been recovered as of Wednesday afternoon.
No arrests have been made.
