Murder of Oak Park jeweler: A case of greed, conspiracy, and betrayal

Well-known Oak Park jeweler murdered in 2022

A trial is now underway in the murder of well-known Oak Park jeweler Dan Hutchinson.

Hutchinson’s own attorney, Marco Michael Bisbikis, is accused of orchestrating a murder-for-hire plot that left Hutchinson dead and Hutchinson’s wife, Marisa, injured.

Roy Donta Larry is accused of opening fire on Hutchinson while he was sitting in his SUV outside a store on Greenfield Road in Oak Park on Wednesday, June 1, 2022. Hutchinson was shot and killed and his wife was shot in the leg.

The trial started just last week in Wayne County Circuit Court. Marisa took the stand on Friday, May 17, 2024. Prosecutors said this was a crime of greed, conspiracy and betrayal.

True crime author Scott Burnstein joined us on the Daily+ Live to discuss the case. Burnstein said Hutchinson had carved out a niche for himself with the rapper, athlete, and actor communities who liked wearing gaudy jewelry.

Prosecutors said it is believed that Hutchinson’s attorney was laundering money through the business and had even put himself in Hutchinson’s trust.

Bisbikis was a close family friend and they had been allegedly engaging in illegal activity together, according to Burnstein

Prosecutors believe a possible motive, according to Burnstein, is that Bisbikis thought that Hutchinson was cooperating with the DEA for investigations into local drug dealers using jewelry shops to launder drug money.

Marisa has been given full immunity in the case, according to Burnstein. She has testified at pre-trial hearings about illegal activity that her, her husband, and their attorney, were allgedly engaging in.

The murder weapon has still not been located.
