DETROIT – Police on Monday were believed to be still looking for a man who escaped their custody at a Detroit hospital over the weekend.
Detroit police say Cortez Rabb, 22, escaped the custody of officers on the morning of Sunday, May 19 at Henry Ford Hospital in the city’s New Center neighborhood. Rabb was reportedly in custody for “felony offenses,” though Detroit police did not specify what that meant.
While in custody, Rabb told officers that he had medical issues, officials said. Rabb was taken to the hospital on West Grand Boulevard. It was not immediately known what medical issues Rabb claimed to have.
Police said Rabb escaped custody while officers were placing the man in a hospital bed. It was not immediately known how many officers were with Rabb at the time.
Multiple units within the police department were searching for Rabb on Sunday, officials said. Anyone who sees Rabb is urged to call 911 and to not interact with him.
It was not known how long Rabb was in custody before his escape at the hospital.
Few details about the case have been shared by police as of Monday morning. We’ll share any updates or details as we obtain them.
