City of Detroit is offering summer job opportunities for all ages

Positions are a mix of full-time and part-time, and pay starts at $15

DETROIT – With summer right around the corner, a world of job opportunities in Detroit awaits you.

Whether you’re interested in supporting an increase in programming and activities or prefer spending more time outdoors, there is a role that suits your interests and skills.

Detroit is looking to hire 25 lifeguards for its six city pools, swim instructors for its free swimming classes, recreation leaders, and attendants who can greet people as they enter city recreation centers.

The positions are a mix of full-time and part-time, and pay starts at $15.

Kids as young as 16 can apply to be a junior lifeguard, eventually graduating to lifeguard status at 18.

In addition, they’re looking for 40 play leaders, their version of a summer camp counselor.

Applying for these exciting summer job opportunities is a breeze. The city has been hosting job fairs at various rec centers, where you can interview for your dream job on the spot.

Someone will be available to make your job search as easy and stress-free as possible.

On Wednesday, May 22, recruiters will be at the Crowell Recreation Center, at 16630 Lahser Road, from 4 p.m. to 7 p.m.

Another hiring fair will be held next week, on May 29, at the Heilmann Recreation Center, 19601 Brock Avenue, Detroit.

If you want to spend more time outdoors, check with the DNR. This summer, 1,300 positions are available across 103 state parks.

“Some parks have campgrounds, you can be a campground attendant,” said Tom Bissett, the Urban District Supervisor of Parks & Recreation.

At other locations, responsibilities include cleaning the park, preparing shelter, or setting up for events.

“We hire college students, high school graduates, retirees, and all kinds of people who are looking for a change of pace, maybe looking to get outdoors instead of sitting in an office,” said Bissett.

The positions pay $15. Click here to find out more or apply for your dream job.
