STERLING HEIGHTS, Mich. – A 9-year-old boy in Sterling Heights is raising money for a “Hero Arm.”
Keegan Kozicki was born with an underdeveloped arm. He has a basic prostatic, but what it can do is limited.
This year, Keegan is one of three kids who entered a fundraising campaign for a bionic arm they call a Hero Arm.
“The one that I have right now only does this, but the one that I saw was like a robot hand, and it does this,” Keegan said, showing how the robotic fingers move.
His mom, Erica Kozicki, said the arm would be a game-changer for him.
“I think that this would be a great confidence booster (for him) to actually want to wear it and get the greatest use out of it that he can,” Kozicki said. “And then the day-to-day tasks, putting on pants, cutting paper at school, holding a bat or a golf club.”
The Big Hero 3 Campaign looks to raise $72,000 to cover the cost of Hero Arms for Keegan and two other kids.
They’ve already raised $50,000 with the support of The Open Bionics Foundation and the Lucky Finn Project.
The remaining $22,000 is up to the families to raise through crowdfunding, like on GoFundMe.
“I’m so excited to do this because I knew this was something he wanted, and I felt bad that I couldn’t originally do it, and now that he can get it, I think that it’s just going to be a life changer for him,” Kozicki said.
There will also be a fundraising event for Keegan in Fraser on June 28. Click here for more information.
