DETROIT – Fashion is a big deal, especially in the city of Detroit.
There’s a reason many people call Livernois the Historic Avenue of Fashion.
“Detroit is known for dressing,” said entrepreneur Algernon Bartell.
Many dapper gentlemen know Bartell’s knack for helping stylish men across the city with the latest fashions.
Bartell owns five retail shops along Livernois Avenue, including Times Square Men’s Custom Clothing.
“Everything is an occasion for Detroit,” said Bartell. “We dress up for everything.”
Right now, Bartell is encouraging men across the city to start picking out their finest threads and heading over to Livernois Avenue on Sunday, May 26, for the 100 Men in Suits event.
“When I created this event, I was thinking about The Met Gala,” Bartell said. “I said, ‘I’m going to create something here in Detroit.’”
The 100 Men in Suits is a fashionable parade where men are decked out and dressed to impress. Organizers said the event’s mission is to eliminate stereotypes about the everyday man.
“It’s about unity,” Bartell said. “That’s the theme of it. Unity in the Community. Because that’s what we want to bring.”
The 100 Men in Suits event is approaching its fourth year and continues to grow. Spectators will line the streets to support the well-dressed men.
Bartell said,” We have an avenue. The sidewalks are wider, so we roll out the red carpet, and people bring their A-game.”
Fellas of all ages are getting involved in the event. They’ll be strutting down the street in their finest clothing.
“What we’re doing, we’re trying to mentor these younger guys,” Bartell said.
As much as 100 Men in Suits is about motivating and supporting fellas in the community, it’s also about bragging rights.
A group of judges will be present, and the best-dressed gentleman will win a custom suit from Times Square Custom Men’s Clothing.
Bartell said the event sends a strong message.
“If you look good, you could feel good, and you could think good about yourself,” Bartell said.
The 100 Men in Suits Strut on the Avenue of Fashion will be held Sunday, May 26, from 3 p.m. to 5 p.m. outside Times Square Men’s Clothing in the 19150 block of Livernois Avenue in Detroit.
