Dive team, rescue boat deployed in search for missing man in Belleville Lake

Officials say undercurrent pulled man underwater

VAN BUREN TOWNSHIP, Mich. – Officials are searching for a 23-year-old man who went underwater at Belleville Lake in Wayne County.

The incident occurred on Monday (May 27) in Van Buren Township.

A dive team and rescue boat has been seen on a sandbar called “Firecracker Island.”

Officials say Firecracker Island connects to a larger piece of land.

There was also a boat that had three people on it, and officials say they got off to walk the sandbar when an undercurrent came up, pulling two people underwater, with one person being able to make their way up to safety.

Officials say the 23-year-old man is from Van Buren Township.
