CENTER LINE, Mich. – Center Line Public Schools will be open Wednesday, May 29, following a ransomware attack that resulted in a districtwide closure Tuesday.
“You hear big businesses being attacked; we’re a small school district not sure what info they would want to get from us, but it just goes to show everyone is susceptible to ransomware attacks,” said Superintendent Joseph Haynes.
Haynes says the IT team alerted district leaders late Saturday about the attack.
The district shut down the entire system Sunday to stop the attack.
Center Line Public Schools, in an effort to ensure the safety and security of its operations, has engaged a third party to assess the cyberattack.
The decision to close the school was a precautionary measure, as pretty much everything in the school runs through technology, whether it’s the food service, cameras, phones, or educational software, all run through the computer system.
“Dear Center Line Public School Families,
We are pleased to announce that we WILL be back in session tomorrow (Wednesday, May 29th). Our technology team and staff worked very hard to mitigate many of the issues, and most of our services will be up and running by tomorrow morning.
However, we ask that you please be patient as we continue to work through other tech challenges we are likely to encounter. Thank you for your continuing support of Center Line Public Schools!"
