Matthew Louis Mollicone. (Macomb County Prosecutor's Office)

RAY TOWNSHIP, Mich. – A man has been found guilty of killing his wife when the couple went to Macomb County to confront another man about having contact with her.

Matthew Louis Mollicone, 46, of Washington Township, went with his wife to a home in Ray Township on July 12, 2022.

They were going to the home to tell another man not to have any more contact with the wife, police said.

When they arrived, Mollicone walked into the garage, approached the other man, and reached for a gun at his waistband, officials said.

The other man also reached for his handgun and fired over Mollicone‘s head, according to authorities.

Officials said the two exchanged gunfire until Mollicone shot the other man in the leg. The other man tried to run away, but Mollicone continued firing his gun, police said.

During the continued exchange of gunfire, Mollicone and his wife returned to their car, and his wife was shot and killed, officials said.

After an eight-day trial, a jury found Mollicone guilty of:

  • Voluntary manslaughter -- a 15-year felony.
  • Assault with intent to murder -- a life felony.
  • Three felony firearm violations -- each a two-year mandatory felony.

His sentencing is scheduled for 9 a.m. July 10, 2024

“The jury’s convictions holds the perpetrator accountable for his actions and brings closure to the loved ones left behind,” Macomb County Prosecutor Peter Lucido said.
