WARREN, Mich. – A driver who fled a traffic stop caused a three-car crash at a major intersection in Macomb County.
A Warren police officer tried to stop a blue 2006 Dodge Charger around 11:15 a.m. Wednesday, May 29, 2024, on southbound Mound Road, north of 10 Mile Road.
The Charger continued heading south on Mound Road, and the officer decided not to give chase, police said.
When the officer got to the intersection of Mound and 9 Mile roads, he saw that the Charger had gotten into a crash with a commercial stake truck and a minivan.
Investigators determined the Charger had crashed into the other vehicles.
The driver of the Charger had to be extricated by Warren firefighters and taken to a nearby hospital. He is in critical condition.
The occupants of the other two vehicles suffered minor injuries, officials said.
Police said they found a bottle of alcohol on the driver’s-side floorboard of the Charger.
The results of a blood draw are pending.
Warren police asked drivers to avoid the area of Mound and 9 Mile roads as the investigation continues. The intersection is expected to be closed for “several hours,” officials said.
