DETROIT – Classes at Wayne State University will be remote for a third straight day while a pro-Palestine encampment continues on campus.
University administrators say they’re concerned about the safety of students, faculty, and staff for Wednesday (May 30).
A meeting offer was made, but student protesters declined.
The student protesters, in their quest for a more inclusive platform, express their desire for a public forum that will be open to a wider student community.
The encampment comes after another was broken up at the University of Michigan last week.
“Due to the ongoing public safety issue, Wayne State University will remain on remote operations, on May 30, 2024.
Students will receive further information from their instructors regarding class arrangements via email or Canvas.
Faculty and staff who can work remotely are expected to do so; those who are unable to work remotely should contact their supervisors for further instructions.
All on-campus events are canceled until further notice. Critical infrastructure workers are expected to report to campus.”
