A bilingual education teacher in Lincoln Park has been recognized with the prestigious Michigan Association for Bilingual Education’s Unsung Educator Award (MABE).

Ghada Ahmad’s tireless commitment to her bilingual students’ success has earned her this esteemed accolade, one of only six winners statewide.

For over 13 years, Ahmad has quietly served Lincoln Park’s growing multilingual learner population, wearing multiple hats as a teacher, coach, translator, counselor, and director. Despite her modesty, Ahmad’s impact on her students’ lives is profound.

Expressing her gratitude, Ahmad stated, “Receiving the MABE Unsung Educator award is a great honor. Witnessing our multilingual learners improve and reach their full potential is truly rewarding.”

The award ceremony, held during the MABE 2024 conference on May 9, celebrated Ahmad’s dedication to her students, school, and community. This award recognizes educators who make significant contributions without seeking recognition.

Dan Mercer, Lincoln Park High School’s executive director of school improvement, and Raya Moussa, English Language Learner coach at Lincoln Park Middle School, nominated Ahmad for the award. They praised her initiatives, including the annual multicultural night, welcoming newcomers, and her commitment to lifelong learning.

“I am incredibly proud of Ghada for winning this award. Her dedication ensures multilingual learners thrive,” Mercer said.

Lincoln Park Public Schools Superintendent Terry Dangerfield said, “Congratulations to Ghada for this well-deserved recognition. She exemplifies unwavering commitment to her students’ success.”

Ahmad’s achievement not only highlights her individual efforts but also underscores Lincoln Park’s commitment to embracing diversity and supporting every student’s journey to success.
