FARMINGTON HILLS, Mich. – A woman fired shots at a group of people who were confronting her teenage son about attacking his girlfriend in Farmington Hills, police said.
Officers were called around 2:15 a.m. Tuesday, May 28, 2024, to the Fox Pointe Townhouses near 11 Mile and Halsted roads in Farmington Hills.
Callers told police that a group of people were fighting in the parking lot.
When cops entered the complex, they stopped a vehicle that was fleeing the scene. One of the occupants told police that she had been assaulted by her boyfriend, 19-year-old Brendon Ravon Ian Wright.
The woman’s friends tried to intervene after witnessing the attack, and that led to a fight in the parking lot of the complex, police said.
Wright’s mother, 47-year-old Patricia Wright, walked out of her home and got involved in the altercation, according to officials.
Police said Patricia Wright went back inside her home and came out with a gun. The group of friends went to their car and fled, but Patricia Wright fired one shot at the vehicle, officials said.
The bullet missed the vehicle and went into a neighbor’s home. It narrowly missed multiple innocent people, according to police.
“The homeowner had several opportunities to deescalate the situation,” Farmington Hills police Chief Jeff King said. “Instead, she chose to retrieve a firearm from a locked safe and recklessly fire at the group as they were attempting to remove themselves from the situation. This impulsive act not only endangered this group of people, but also put numerous other residents in danger.”
Patricia Wright and her son were both taken into custody.
