It’s been one collision after another for Detroit EMS and fire vehicles.
On May 11, a rig ran a red light, collided with a truck and slammed into a sign pole.
On May 28, an EMS unit rolled down an embankment and landed on its side on I-75. The driver was injured. Michigan State Police cited a medic for the crash.
On June 2, another EMS vehicle was overturned after it was struck by a car at Chicago and Wyoming avenues. A firefighter was hospitalized. Authorities said it was driving to an emergency with its lights and sirens on, but the driver had little experience behind the wheel. Detroit Fire Commissioner Chuck Simms said the driver was a cadet.
People said dangerous driving is a problem that needs to end right now before more people are hurt or someone is killed.
Simms said the department is taking a look to see what it can do to improve training and safety.
