Woman charged in fatal crash after allegedly running red light while using GPS in Macomb county

Courtney Niezgoda was charged with reckless driving, causing death

MACOMB COUNTY, Mich. – Courtney Ellise Niezgoda, 27, from Riley, Michigan, was charged with a car crash in Macomb County.

The incident occurred on Feb. 12, when Niezgoda was driving her Ford EcoSport on M-53 near 32 Mile Road when she ran a red light, hitting another vehicle, killing 63-year-old Tina Yaney of Macomb.

Officials say she was allegedly using her phone for GPS during the crash.

Niezgoda was charged with reckless driving, causing death, a 15-year felony.

The 27-year-old woman was arraigned in 42-1 Romeo District Court, where the bond was set at $50,000 cash/surety, 10% with conditions of no social media use of any kind, no alcohol or drugs with testing, no driving for any reason and she must maintain employment.

A probable cause hearing is scheduled for Monday, June 24, at 1 p.m.
