WIXOM, Mich. – The boyfriend of an Oakland County mother has been charged with murder after the death of a 1-year-old girl.
Wixom police were called at 12:26 a.m. Saturday, June 1, 2024, to a home in the 30000 block of Tamarack Drive.
Officers said they found a 1-year-old girl unresponsive. The child’s mother and her boyfriend, Christopher Charles Savage, 24, of Wixom, were performing CPR, officials said.
Wixom police and firefighters took over CPR and brought the child to Ascension Providence Hospital in Novi. She was transferred to Children’s Hospital in Detroit, where she died from her injuries.
The girl died from “multiple injuries throughout her body,” officials said. Savage is accused of being the only adult with her at the time she suffered those injuries.
“Words cannot begin to describe how deeply disturbing and upsetting this incident is,” Oakland County Prosecutor Karen McDonald said. “Children deserve safe environments to grow and thrive, and this child clearly did not have that opportunity. My office will fight for justice for the victim and their loved ones.”
Savage was taken into custody and arraigned Tuesday at 52-1 District Court on charges of felony murder and first-degree child abuse.
Felony murder is punishable by life in prison without the possibility of parole, and the maximum penalty for first-degree child abuse is a life sentence.
Bond was denied, and Savage is being held at the Oakland County Jail.
A probable cause conference is scheduled for 10 a.m. June 12, and a preliminary examination is scheduled for 1:30 p.m. June 18.
