MONROE, Mich. – A suspected carjacker was arrested Saturday, June 8, after a brief chase across parts of Monroe County.
The incident began at about 7:30 p.m. when a man reportedly attacked a driver and stole their vehicle on Macomb Street in Monroe. A description of the vehicle -- an olive green Subaru Outback -- and its license plate were sent out to law enforcement in the area by the Monroe Police Department.

According to authorities, a Monroe County Sheriff’s Deputy attempted a traffic stop after they located the vehicle traveling northbound on Monroe Street in Frenchtown Township. The Subaru reportedly sped off and was chased by authorities onto Telegraph Road. Stop sticks managed to puncture two tires on the stolen vehicle, which eventually stopped in a residential area just south of Newport Road.
The Sheriff’s Office said the suspect attempted to run away but was taken into custody by deputies.
The man -- only described by authorities as a 47-year-old from Newport -- was lodged at the Monroe County Jail on charges of fleeing and eluding, assault and battery on police and resisting arrest. The Monroe Police Department is seeking charges connected to the reported carjacking.
