DEARBORN, Mich. – Part of Southfield Freeway (M-39) will only have one lane open in part of Wayne County this summer due to an ongoing road work project.

The M-39 Dearborn/Allen Park project on northbound and southbound Southfield Freeway from Pinecrest Drive, south of I-94, to M-153 (Ford Road) has changed to include construction and maintenance work, including concrete patching, milling, resurfacing, drainage cleaning, and barrier wall repairs.

Officials say crews are expected to work continuously with one lane open in each direction for drivers most of the time.

Crews will pull back and open two lanes in each direction, but drivers should anticipate only one lane being open from now through late summer/early fall.

While the construction work is underway, drivers should anticipate potential long delays.

To maintain control over their journey, they should consider alternate routes, which can help them avoid congested areas.

The $15.5 million investment is expected to directly and indirectly support 188 jobs.
