LA SALLE TOWNSHIP, Mich. – A driver was killed and four other people were injured Thursday when a semi truck went through the median of I-75 and crashed into three other cars, police said.

Crash details
The crash happened at 4:18 a.m. Thursday, June 13, 2024. Officials said a semi truck was heading south on I-75 near South Otter Creek Road in La Salle Township.
When the semi truck entered a construction zone, the driver lost control and veered into the cement barricades on the right side of the southbound lanes. It’s not clear why the driver lost control, officials said.
The semi truck then crossed back over the southbound lanes and hit the left-side median barricades, according to police.
Officials said the semi truck broke through the center barrier wall and entered the northbound lanes. It crashed into three vehicles heading north, police said.
Semi truck driver killed, 4 hurt
The driver of the semi truck, a 47-year-old man from Belleville, was pronounced dead at the scene, officials said.
Two people from one of the other vehicles had minor injuries and took themselves to a nearby hospital.
The drivers of the other two vehicles had minor injuries, but they refused transportation to the hospital, according to police.
No construction workers were working at the time of the crash, officials said.
Traffic closure
Both directions of I-75 were shut down near South Otter Creek Road after the crash.
It’s unclear how long the freeway closure will last.
Investigation
Michigan State Police, the Monroe County Sheriff’s Office, the La Salle Fire Department, and Monroe Community Ambulance were involved in the investigation.
State troopers said the investigation is ongoing.
