Oxford school board members resign amidst demand for removal by shooting victims’ parents

Two of seven Oxford Board of Education’s seats are now vacant

OXFORD, Mich. – The last two members who served on the Oxford school board during the high school mass shooting in November of 2021 have resigned.

Members Mary Hanser and Heather Shafer announced they were stepping down on Wednesday (June 12) after parents were calling for their removal from the parents of the victims who were killed in the 2021 high school mass shooting.

The resignations come a day after the State Board of Education called on Michigan lawmakers to fund and conduct an independent review of the deadly Oxford High School shooting.

The complaint was signed by Madisyn Baldwin’s mother, Nicole Beausoleil; Tate Myre’s father, Buck Myre; Justin Shilling’s parents, Jill Soave and Craig Shilling; and Hana St. Juliana’s father, Steve St. Juliana.
