3 people accused of destroying 2022 gubernatorial campaigns of 5 candidates are heading to trial

All 3 have now been indicted for a multitude of serious felonies

Michigan Attorney General Dana Nessel has charged three people with derailing five gubernatorial campaigns and three judicial campaigns in the 2022 election cycle.

All three individuals have now been indicted for trial in Macomb Circuit Court on a multitude of serious felonies, underscoring the gravity of their alleged actions.

Shawn Wilmoth is facing 27 felonies, including conducting a criminal enterprise.

Jamie Wilmoth Goodin is facing 25 felonies, including conducting a criminal enterprise.

Willie Reed is also facing 27 felonies, including conducting a criminal enterprise.

Nessel says all three are responsible for turning in nominating petitions riddled with fraud and forgeries, which kicked GOP front-runner James Craig off the ballot, as well as four other Republican gubernatorial hopefuls.

Nessel says they’re also responsible for derailing three judicial candidates.

According to investigators, they took in over $700,000, promising to turn in the signatures these candidates needed to make the ballot.

Instead, they turned in fraudulent petitions, which the Secretary of State’s election division immediately flagged.

“The signatures furnished by these defendants were clear forgeries and fabrications, and the harm the victim campaigns suffered is substantial and without remedy,” Nessel said. “This alleged criminal enterprise brought in hundreds of thousands of dollars, and those responsible face very serious charges.”
