GARDEN CITY, Mich. – Eddie Ray Jr. Johnson, from Garden City, was charged on one count of manslaughter for killing Detroit police Sgt. Elaine Williams back in 2019.
The sentence agreement was three years probation, and any violation found by the court would result in a guideline sentence of 57 months, a minimum of 95 months, and a maximum of 15 years in jail.
Prosecutor Kym Worthy charged the then-35-year-old man in connection with the fatal shooting of Williams on June 7, 2019.
Court records indicated that Johnson and Williams were domestic partners who lived together at the time of her death, which occurred on June 2, 2019, at 11:45 p.m. at their home in the 200 block of Belton Street in Garden City.
Officers said they located Johnson, who had sustained a gunshot wound to his abdomen outside of the home.
Officials said once they went inside the home, they discovered the lifeless body of Williams, who was shot multiple times.
Medics arrived at the location and pronounced Sgt. William’s deceased. Johnson was arrested and transported to a Metro Detroit hospital for treatment of his wound.
Court documents say the couple went out with their neighbors on Belton Street to a local bar earlier in the evening.
After returning to their home, the neighbors heard the couple arguing. One neighbor heard multiple gunshots coming from the house and then saw Johnson exiting from the front of the house, suffering from a gunshot wound.
Postmortem toxicology reports showed that Sgt. William’s blood alcohol concentration (BAC) was 0.240 grams per 100 milliliters of blood at the time of her death.
Medical records for Johnson show that his (BAC) was 0.189 grams per 100 milliliters of blood after admission to the hospital.
Officials said there were eight .40 caliber shell casings located inside the residence near Sgt. William’s body. The Michigan State Police Forensic Laboratory examined all eight shell casings.
All eight shell casings were identified as being fired from a .40 caliber Smith and Wesson pistol. This pistol was issued to Williams during her employment as a sergeant with the Detroit Police Department.
Garden City police interviewed Johnson in his recovery bed after his surgery at Oakwood Hospital. During two interviews, he stated that he shot Williams during a struggle after she shot him one time.
