Ohio man charged after shots fired during road rage dispute on Wayne County freeway

HURON TOWNSHIP, Mich. – An Ohio man has been charged after shots were fired during a road rage dispute on a Wayne County freeway.

The shooting happened at 7:25 a.m. Wednesday, June 12, 2024, on northbound I-275 near Sibley Road in Huron Township.

Officials said there was a “road rage situation” between two drivers on the freeway, and shots were fired. One person’s car was struck twice by gunfire, but nobody was injured.

Romulus police took the suspected shooter, Alec Thieman, 28, of Delta, Ohio, into custody. Michigan State Police troopers said they found a pistol in Thieman‘s car.

The other driver was in the police parking lot by the time Michigan State Police were called. He was released.

Thieman is charged with assault with intent to murder, assault with intent to do great bodily harm, assault with a dangerous weapon, reckless driving, and three felony firearm violations.

He was arraigned Friday at 34th District Court and given a $250,000 cash bond, no 10%.
