TSA employee charged with non-fatal freeway shooting of Romulus man

TSA made an official statement on the incident

Alec Nicholas Thieman, 28, of Delta, Ohio, has been charged in connection with the non-fatal shooting of a 46-year-old man from Romulus.

The Transportation Security Administration employs Thieman.

The incident occurred on Wednesday (June 12) at 6:40 a.m. while driving northbound on the I-275 Freeway near Pennsylvania Road in Huron Township when Thieman allegedly produced and shot a gun, hitting the 46-year-old man’s vehicle.

Officials say the victim did not sustain gunshot wounds in the shooting.

Thieman has been charged with assault with intent to murder, assault with intent to do great bodily harm, felonious assault, reckless driving, commission of a felony with a motor vehicle, and three counts of felony firearm.

He was arraigned Friday (June 14) morning in the 34th District Court and given a $250,000 cash bond.

The probable cause conference is scheduled for June 26 at 8:30 a.m.

“TSA is aware of the charges against Alec Thieman. We can confirm he has been a TSA employee since 2017 and was placed on unpaid administrative leave. Given the pending investigation by local law enforcement, we refer further inquiries to Michigan State Police.”
