SOUTHFIELD, Mich. – The family of Maurice Elmore, 79, who was fatally attacked in Southfield, spoke out during a press conference Friday at police headquarters.
“My father was perfect,” Jill Elmore said. “There’s nothing to say bad about him. He was a loving person.”
Her 79-year-old father, Maurice Elmore, was brutally attacked on May 30 while walking in the area of Telegraph and Franklin roads.
Maurice was taken to the hospital and died Monday (June 10) from his injuries.
Southfield police arrested the suspect, Stavon Lindsay.
During Friday’s news conference, police released surveillance video of Lindsay allegedly attacking Maurice.
“While Mr. Elmore is on the ground, the suspect repeatedly assaults Mr. Elmore by kicking and punching him,” said Southfield police Chief Elvin Barren.
Another surveillance video from the night of the attack shows Lindsay allegedly destroying property and attacking a man on a bike.
Barren said Lindsay has mental health disorders.
Lindsay was charged with multiple crimes, including Maurice’s murder.
He is being held without bond.
