ROCHESTER HILLS, Mich. – While police continue to investigate a mass shooting at a splash pad in Rochester Hills, the mental health and well-being of the community is top of mind.
The shooting happened just after 5 p.m. on Saturday, June 15, at the Brooklands Plaza Splash Pad at 1585 E. Auburn Road in Rochester Hills. Police believe the shooting was “random” in nature. Nine people, including two children, were injured in the shooting. The gunman killed himself inside his home hours after the shooting.
Oakland County officials laid out plans to help anyone who might be struggling in the aftermath of the shooting. As vigils are being organized, longtime Rochester Hills mayor Bryan Barnett said meal trains are already in place to help affected families.
The splash pad where the shooting happened is only about a mile away from the Rochester Hills Department of Public Services building, which will now serve as a Family Assistance Center.
Starting Sunday, therapists will be available for anyone in need. The Oakland County Health Network assisted in the aftermath of the Oxford High School mass shooting, and now they are mobilizing in Rochester Hills.
Anyone who feels they need help is encouraged to speak with someone. You do not need an appointment to access resources at the Family Assistance Center. Therapists will be available Monday through Friday from 4 p.m. until 8 p.m. at 511 E Auburn Road.
