‘Live911′ tech aids rapid response in Rochester Hills mass shooting

Over 130 agencies nationwide use Live911 for quicker responses

ROCHESTER HILLS, Mich. – There was a quick response to reports of multiple people shot at the Brooklands Plaza Splash Pad Saturday in Oakland County.

An Oakland County Sheriff’s Deputy arrived on scene within a few minutes of the call.

“Thankfully, because we had layered in newer technology called Live911, one of our sergeants at the Rochester Hills substation heard the actual 911 call before it went over dispatch and immediately self-deployed,” Oakland County Sheriff Michael Bouchard said.

According to HigherGround, the company behind Live911, the technology hit the market in 2020, and over 130 law enforcement agencies nationwide are using it.

When a 911 call comes in, Live911 sends it out simultaneously to first responders.

Departments utilizing the technology no longer have to wait for the call for service to be sent out over the radio.

A quick response is even more crucial in a situation like an active shooter like the incident in Rochester Hills on June 15.

“Seconds matter when people are in a life-or-death situation. So that’s why we have pushed Live911 into our operations,” Bouchard said.

The Oakland County Sheriff’s Department began using Live911 about a year and a half ago.
