Teenager expected to recover after being shot on Detroit’s east side

Investigation is ongoing

DETROIT – A teen was hospitalized Tuesday, June 18, after being shot on Detroit’s east side.

It happened before 11 a.m. at an apartment complex on Cadieux Road, just south of Morang Avenue. There aren’t many details known.

At least one resident wasn’t happy with the fact that a young man was shot in their neighborhood.

“My heart goes out to the baby,” said Jennifer Greer. “My heart goes out to his mother and his family.”

The news was hard to bear for Greer, a mother of six.

“He’s a baby. He did not deserve that. He’s innocent,” Greer said. “He’s an innocent child who should not have been through this. He should not have been shot, none of that.”

Officers spent hours on the scene investigating and searching for witnesses.

“The officers, I’m happy that they’re here -– at least being out in front of this building where this baby got shot at -- trying to figure out what’s going on or what’s happened to him,” Greer said. “That’s an A-Plus for me.”

The teen, who was taken to a hospital, is expected to be OK.

The investigation is ongoing.
