Motorcyclist killed in Monroe County crash, 2 seriously injured

Authorities say he was not wearing a helmet

FRENCHTOWN TOWNSHIP, Mich. – A 59-year-old man from Florida was killed Tuesday, June 18, in a motorcycle crash in Frenchtown Township.

The crash happened at about 6 p.m. at the intersection of Telegraph and Mall roads.

According to authorities, Troy Wheatcraft -- a resident of Port Charlotte, Florida -- was driving a motorcycle north on Telegraph Road and was struck by a southbound Chevrolet Trax that was making an eastbound turn. The Chevrolet rotated and overturned and Wheatcraft fell from his motorcycle.

Wheatcraft was transported to a hospital where he died. He reportedly was not wearing a helmet.

The driver and passenger of the Chevrolet -- 18-year-old Mikalah Yeske and 48-year-old Rebecca Yeske -- were taken to a hospital, where they remain in serious condition.

Authorities do not believe alcohol or speed were factors in the crash.
