EASTPOINTE, Mich. – A man is facing charges after his 3-year-old son shot himself in the hand at their Macomb County home, officials said.

Eastpointe police were called around 7 p.m. June 15, 2024, to a home in the 21000 block of Nevada Avenue.

When they arrived, officers found Demetrius Robert Owens, 27, sitting on a couch, holding his 3-year-old son in his lap, they said.

The child had a gunshot injury on his left hand. Police said the child had accidentally shot himself with Owens’ handgun, which was recovered at the home.
