Belle Isle reaches full capacity for Ford Fireworks in Downtown Detroit

Residents who arrived early had themselves a great time

Everywhere you looked, generations of families were spread out, playing touch football, taking a nap in the sun, or, in some cases, putting out a true family feast.

Al Gray Jr. had a multi-grill setup as well as an entire table full of sides.

“We’ve got grilled chicken, fried chicken, famous Uncle Al’s cheeseburgers, marinated grilled fish, fried fish, fried shrimp, and grilled shrimp,” Gray Jr. said.

He told Local 4 he was cooking for at least 75 people.

Coming to Belle Isle for the fireworks is a long-standing family tradition.

So many years, we’ve battled rain, but not this year.

Bright, beautiful, and warm without being sticky. All in all, a perfect night.
