OAKLAND COUNTY, Mich. – Funeral services for Oakland County Sheriff’s Deputy Bradley Reckling are now slated for Friday.
While the preparations are underway, the Detroit Police Department continues investigating the events of last Saturday (June 22) night.
Crime Stoppers even offers a $5,000 reward for information involving the shooting and killing of Reckling, who died early Sunday, June 23, 2024 morning, and immediately, the Oakland County Sheriff’s Office, along with the management of the Pixley Funeral Home in Rochester, created a memorial in his honor.
It’s been here ever since, and there has been a steady stream of traffic to pay respects.
In addition to becoming a detective at the Oakland County Sheriff’s Office, he rode as a motorcycle unit officer.
His bike and gear were displayed behind ropes, and flowers were piling up.
One of Deputy Reckling’s family members, Shadd Missinne, hunted and fished together and came to pay his respects.
“He loved his family,” said Missinne. “He always, that’s all he talked about was his family, it’s just a tragedy, it’s a senseless tragedy.”
Kent Clarke of Troy went out of his way to see the memorial and pray.
“I don’t think the police are getting enough respect,” said Clarke.
Romeo High School is holding a memorial service on Friday night for Reckling, who played football there not so long ago.
“We’re without a hero, and we’re without another person putting their life on the line to make sure we’re OK and that we’re safe.”
The American flag flew at half mast outside the funeral home, along with the thin blue line flag, out of respect for the 30-year-old detective who left behind three daughters under the age of seven and a pregnant wife.
“They’ll never have anything to do with their father ever again over something senseless,” Missinne said. “Over a stolen car, he didn’t deserve that.”
The funeral arrangements were made late Tuesday afternoon. They will be held at the Auburn Hills Apostolic Church on Squirrel Road in Auburn Hills.
Visitation will be at 10 a.m., and the funeral service will be at 3 p.m.
The GoFundMe eclipsed $200,000 on Monday, but a couple of other charities are raising money for the family.
The criminal case is still up in the air, although there is a $5,000 reward given by crime stoppers, which leads to information that helps with the case.
Officials say arrests have been made, but no arraignments have been made so far.
