MONROE COUNTY, Mich. – A Facebook scam has been reported in Monroe County after the scammer posted on social media that they are raising funds for the Monroe County Sheriff’s Department.

Monroe County Sheriff Troy Goodnough said his office would never request citizens to submit payment over the phone or via social media or solicit any citizen to donate money to their office.

Goodnough said his office will also never request payment through gift cards.
