DEARBORN HEIGHTS, Mich. – The Dearborn Heights administration and staff, deeply frustrated by the city council’s repeated rejection of their proposed budget, have initiated preparations for a potential shutdown of all city services, effective July 1.
Dearborn Heights Charter mandates that the city council adopt a proposed budget by the first Monday in June of each year.

Michigan law mandates that the city council approve a proposed, balanced budget before the city’s new fiscal year starts—which in Dearborn Heights’ case is July 1. So far, neither of these mandates has been met.
Dearborn Heights City Council has reviewed and rejected several budget proposals since the April 1 deadline.
The most recent meeting was on Tuesday (June 25), but the city council did not discuss the proposed budget or make any changes to pass it.
Dearborn Heights City Council is also accused of demanding confidential information regarding employees.
A crucial special meeting has been set for Friday (June 28) at 6 p.m. at Dearborn Heights City Hall, 6045 Fenton Street.
This meeting is of utmost importance in reaching an agreement before the mandated shutdown.
