Suspects in fatal shooting of Oakland County sheriff’s deputy were free on bond, police say

No one has been charged in the fatal shooting

The three people suspected in the killing of Oakland County Deputy Bradley Reckling remain in custody at the Wayne County Jail.

Police sources told Local 4 that two of the suspects were previously charged with fleeing and eluding, and carrying a concealed weapon connected to an incident back in March in Troy.

As of right now, none of the three have been charged in the fatal shooting of Reckling, so Local 4 is not releasing their names.

The nine-year veteran of the Oakland County Sheriff’s Department was killed Saturday night while working with the auto theft unit.

Reckling was following a stolen car in Detroit. Investigators said the occupants stopped the car and opened fire.

While the investigation continues, the community has been stepping up to help Reckling’s family.

He leaves behind a pregnant wife and three daughters.

The Marathon gas station on S. Wixom Road near West Road is donating 25 cents of every gallon of fuel sold Wednesday and Thursday (June 27) to the family.

“What we are trying to do and the message we are trying to send is that I just want to show the family of the men in blue that we appreciate their sacrifices because their job is not a job, their job is a mission,” Marathon owner Eddie Osman said. “When you join the navy, the army, the air force, you are not joining because of the money or the benefit. You are joining because of the cause.”

There will be a candlelight vigil for Reckling at 9 p.m. at Romeo High School, where he graduated in 2009.
