Highland Park hit with string of break-ins, burglaries

Suspected burglar hits 4 homes in 1 week

HIGHLAND PARK, Mich. – Police in Highland Park are warning residents of a suspected burglar who could be roaming neighborhoods.

He reportedly targets homes between 10 a.m. and noon.

Authorities released a photo of the suspect Wednesday, June 26, during a community meeting. Police said the suspect has targeted at least four homes over the last week.

The suspect reportedly has worn the same clothing in each break-in -- a dark winter coat with the hood pulled over his head, a facemask, gloves, gray sweatpants and black sneakers. Police said he walks to the homes he targets and gets in through windows or by breaking door jambs and prying doors open.

Once inside, he steals jewelry, appliances and money.

“It’s quite disturbing,” said neighbor Denise Graham. “I see that my neighbor has just gotten a new security system. So, it’s making me feel unsafe.”

The burglaries have occurred on Eason Avenue, Moss Street, Louise Avenue, and Florence Street -- all between Second and Woodward avenues.

”I’m hoping that we can get some tips and we can arrest this guy immediately,” said Highland Park Police Chief Jim McMahon.

Anyone who recognizes the suspect or has any information is urged to contact the Highland Park Police Department at 313-852-7338.
