Karim Blake Moore, 18, from Clinton Township, has been arraigned on charges in connection with the murder of Oakland County Sheriff’s Deputy Bradley Reckling, who was tracking a stolen car ripped off from Oakland County and tracked to Detroit.
Moore was charged with lying to police and resisting arrest for now. More charges are possible as the investigation continues.
Wayne County Assistant Prosecutor Matthew Penney told the judge Moore needs a high cash bond.
“This man is a flight risk he is in the thick of something that is very deep and very, very serious,” Penney said.
Prosecutors say Moore admits he was in the car at the time of the shooting but has been uncooperative.
“He chose to, by his own accounts, after seeing police lights ran from the vehicle ran with two others who were apparently involved and ran three blocks away from where the officer unfortunately expired,” Penney said.
A tracking dog found all three a few blocks away, as well as two guns and a pair of gloves.
Moore is one of three 18-year-olds being held in connection with Reckling’s murder.
Moore’s attorney, Adam Clements, tried to argue for a low bond that would allow him out on a tether. The judge wouldn’t go for it.
Moore was given a $100,000 bond, cash, not 10%, and if he came up with it, he would be tethered and confined to his home.
The other two 18-year-old suspects have not been charged yet, so Local 4 is not naming them.
At the time the deputy was killed, they were out on bond from Troy, accused of fleeing and eluding, and carrying a concealed weapon.
