OAKLAND COUNTY, Mich. – An 8-year-old boy who was injured in a mass shooting at a Rochester Hills splash pad has been released from the hospital.

Nine people, including two children, were shot when a man opened fire at the Brooklands Plaza Splash Pad in Oakland County on Saturday, June 15, 2024.

Police said an 8-year-old boy who was among the injured was released from the hospital on Friday, June 28, 2024. Police did not release the boy’s name, but said he is “resting comfortably at home.”

The boy’s mother, a 39-year-old Rochester Hills woman, was seriously injured while shielding her children from the gunman. She is still in the hospital. A 30-year-old woman who was seriously injured in the shooting also remains hospitalized.

Police said the two women are the only victims who are still hospitalized as of Saturday morning. Many of the victims will still face “significant healing and health challenges,” according to police.
