WARREN, Mich. – A woman was killed and four people were injured in a crash that occurred during a police chase in Warren.
The crash happened after 1:35 a.m. on Saturday, June 29, 2024, in the area of 10 Mile Road west of Dequindre Road in Warren.
Police said two Warren police officers who were in full uniform and in a fully marked patrol car were on patrol in the area of 8 Mile and Ryan roads. They noticed three Dodge Chargers speeding westbound on 8 Mile Road. Officers activated their lights and the three Chargers did not stop.
Two of the Chargers traveled west on 8 Mile Road and then northbound on Ryan Road. At 10 Mile Road and Ryan Road two of the Chargers turned left and continued westbound with police in pursuit.
On 10 Mile Road west of Dequindre Road, a Charger driven by a 26-year-old man struck a Jeep Cherokee, which was not involved in the chase. The driver of the Jeep was injured and the passenger, a 42-year-old woman, was killed.
The driver of the Jeep, the driver of the Dodge and two other passengers inside the Charger, were transported to an area hospital. All are listed in stable condition. The 26-year-old driver was placed in police custody.
Police are working to identify the driver of the second Charger involved in the pursuit. The third Charger returned to the scene and the people inside cooperated with investigators.
“Like every police pursuit, this pursuit was closely monitored in real time by patrol supervisors. Traffic was light throughout the entire pursuit which lasted approximately three minutes in length. This is an active and ongoing investigation with investigators canvassing for additional video along the path of the pursuit,” Warren police said in a press release.
