Detroit man convicted of murdering, carjacking man who drove from Kentucky to buy vehicle trailer

Convicted of six felonies

DETROIT – A 31-year-old man from Detroit was convicted of murder Friday, June 28, in connection with a 2021 murder of a man from Kentucky.

A jury found Davontae Eshawn Long guilty of felony murder, carjacking, felon in possession of a handgun and three counts of felony firearm.

The convictions stem from a fatal shooting that happened in Detroit on Dec. 9, 2021. According to authorities, the victim was a 28-year-old from Kentucky who drove to Detroit to complete the purchase of a vehicle trailer that was arranged on Facebook Marketplace. When the Kentucky man arrived, Long reportedly pulled him from his Cadillac Escalade, shot him in the back and left in the Cadillac with the victim’s possessions.

Long will be sentenced July 18. He faces the possibility of life in prison.
