“These people are driving in such a manner that it makes their weapon basically a 5,000-pound bullet driving down Eight Mile,” said Commissioner Charles Rushton.
According to authorities, two Warren police officers were on patrol on Eight Mile Road, near Mound Road, when they saw three Dodge Charges speeding in tandem, potentially racing. The police attempted a traffic stop for reckless driving and activated their lights, leading to one Charger pulling over and the other two speeding off.
Police said one of the Chargers struck a Jeep that was turning onto 10 Mile Road. The driver of the Jeep was injured and the passenger, Katrina Michael, 42, was killed. She was a single mother of two teenage boys.
Police said the pursuit was called off when the crash happened. The driver of the other Charger got away.
