Delta flight from Detroit to Amsterdam forced to stop after passengers served spoiled food

ROMULUS, Mich. – A Delta Air Lines flight from Detroit to Amsterdam was forced to make a stop after passengers were served spoiled food.

A Delta spokesperson confirmed that Delta flight 136 from Detroit Metro Airport was en route to Amsterdam on Wednesday morning, July 3, 2024, when it diverted to JFK airport in New York.

Airline officials said there were reports that some of the main cabin meal service food had spoiled. Medical crews met the flight at JFK when it landed at 4 a.m. Wednesday to treat affected passengers and crew members.

There were 277 passengers on board. So far, it’s unclear how many ate spoiled food.

Delta Food Safety workers are trying to isolate what happened. They are in contact with the airline’s food suppliers.

Delta flight 136 from Detroit to Amsterdam diverted to New York’s JFK early Wednesday morning after reports that a portion of the Main Cabin in-flight meal service were spoiled. Medical crews met the aircraft to treat any affected passengers and crew members. Delta’s Food Safety team has engaged our suppliers to immediately isolate the product and launch a thorough investigation into the incident. This is not the service Delta is known for and we sincerely apologize to our customers for the inconvenience and delay in their travels.
