ROCHESTER HILLS, Mich. – The Rochester Hills splash pad where nine people were injured in a mass shooting last month has reopened.

Nine people, including two children, were shot when a man opened fire at the Brooklands Plaza Splash Pad in Oakland County on Saturday, June 15, 2024. Eight of the nine people who were shot have been released from the hospital.

The city of Rochester Hills said one person is still hospitalized, but officials have continued to receive “optimistic news” about her health.

The splash pad has reopened. It will be open from 10 a.m. until 8 p.m. every day. There will be a police presence in the area and officials have put up signage about mental health resources that are available to the community.

“Our next step is reopening the Splash Pad and allowing the community - at their own pace - to reclaim what is theirs. Evil will not win here. Not in a place where laughter and squeals of joy abound. There will never be a moment that we do not think about what happened, but as Mayor Barnett has said so many times over the past two weeks . . . this tragedy will not define us. Our response will. Friends, this community’s response has been nothing short of amazing. You all are amazing.”
