Video: Suspected drunk boater crashes into sheriff patrol boat, seawall in Macomb County

No injuries reported

ST. CLAIR SHORES, Mich. – Authorities have released video of a suspected drunk man crashing a boat into law enforcement and a seawall in Macomb County.

The crash happened Friday, July 5, at about 7 p.m. at Jefferson Beach Marina in St. Clair Shores. Officials with the Macomb County Sheriff’s Office were conducting a minor marine violation stop involving a 17′ Wellcraft when their Patrol Boat was struck by a 30′ Sea Ray Cabin Cruiser. Both the Patrol Boat and the Wellcraft were docked near a seawall at the time of the collision.

A body camera captured the Sea Ray Cabin Cruiser striking the Patrol Boat, causing damage to both vessels, and then crashing into a seawall and stopping.

Multiple people can be heard yelling at the boat operator to turn the motor off and to “pay attention” just before hitting the seawall.

Bodycam footage of the incident can be watched in the video player above.

The operator of the Sea Ray Cabin Cruiser, a 69-year-old man from Oak Park, was arrested for operating under the influence of liquor and taken to the Macomb County Jail.

No injuries were reported.
